Hi guys, how’re you doing? Gosh, it’s been a while since I put fingers to keyboard – how un-millenial of me!
Like our unpredicatable British seasons, a lot has been changing with me over the last six months. I’ve reduced all of my dietary animal intake by 95% (I’ll get to this in another post me thinks), have made a vow to consume less AND decided to let my blonde highlights finally grow out – I KNOW.
The driving force behind the above is my intention to become a more sustainable human being – you know, the type of person that actually wants our planet to see it’s 2030’rd year of existence.
With that in mind, I’ve been making a considerable effort to shop more ethically and put my middle manicured finger up to all those fast-fashion brands that keep following me around the Internet - #soz.

Admittedly, it’s a little overwhelming to suddenly switch-up your routine – you no longer view things in the same way, which can make decisions and practices slightly ‘awkward’. Albeit, making more conscious decisions about single-use plastics, animal products and consumerism definitely makes me feel more empowered!
ANYWAY, you probably clicked on this blog post to find out about the underwear I’m wearing – not for a Kortland philosophical rant, so let me get to it.
I discovered Lara Intimates when I was watching one of my favourite YouTubers (big-up Venetia Falconer) visit their mini factory come store in Hackney. Alongside my recent lifestyle changes, I was really captured by their eco-ethos – and of course, their gorgeous lingerie.
The Lara Intimates brand is passionate about supporting woman empowerment, kindness and body equality – which is why their bra sizes range from 28A – 36I, their Instagram / website catalogue features beautiful bodies of ALL sizes AND all the garments and handmade by women. How. Fucking. Fantastic.

This Black Ava bra, along with all of their other lingerie, is made to order (pretty much) using dead stock fabric and eco-friendly practices. They’re certainly not compromising on style either – their entire range is utterly gorgeous and incredibly flattering. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself.
The range features; soft bras, wired bras, briefs and bodysuits – pretty much all the core components of your underwear drawer!
You can go into their store in East London for a try-on sesh and they’ll even measure your boobs properly – none of that awkward M&S malarkey that feels like your Grandma’s best friend is feeling you up.

Being a Bristol inhabitant meant that I couldn’t go for this bespoke offering, however – Lara Intimates has a fab little tutorial on their website that shows you how to measure. The team are also on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Now, I’m not going to lie, the prices of their garments are probably more than you’re weekly food shop all together – BUT, let’s just make something clear. These pieces are HAND MADE (yes, someone is sitting at a sewing machine right now to create them for you) under ethical practices, in London, using the best re-used material to create some beautifully unique designs. This isn’t something that you’ll need to re-purchase often – or you can if you want more of their styles, obviously.
I’m all for this modern take on sustainable underwear. Gone are the days of shopping £3.50 knickers that rode up your bum and bra straps that snapped a few months after purchase.
So, lets give our bodies nothing but the best – shop more sustainably, more consciously and help support brands like Lara Intimates that are doing fantastic things (for our boobs and for our planets).
